N1B: Chapter One

N1B: Chapter Seven

Richeleu welcomes his daughter Ava back to Los Angeles. Eight years ago, after her mom died, Ava ran off with an assassin to God knows where to do God knows what so Richeleu’s game of having the world’s ten best hitmen kill each other for sport is his idea of revenge on the kind who destroyed his family. What he plans to do with Ava, however, is another matter completely. And one she should definitely be worried about. Dane remains haunted by his past. In his dreams he is visited again by a memory of the event that changes his life. While on a job to dispatch a man named Grober who deals arms to terrorists, Dane inadvertently kills his target in front of the man’s seven year old son. Seing the pain he’s caused first hand, in the eyes of this innocent boy makes something in Dane snap like a rubber band stretched to its limit. He runs away as fast as his legs can carry him, finally dropping exhausted to his knees. Images of Grober’s son hugging his dead father’s bloody body claw at his mind in an endless loop with no off switch, a painful memory that can only be stopped with a bullet. Dane takes his gun, the same one that killed Grober and puts it under his chin, about to pull the trigger…

N1B: Chapter Eight

In Part 1 of Johnny Dane’s flashback, he’s been sent to Brazil to kill a man named Acevedo, an ex CIA operative gone rogue, now thought to be in the employ of the Chinese government. Acevedo knows too much so the U.S. government wants him dead. More specifically, a covert branch within a covert organization inside the U.S. Government wants him dead a branch tasked with political stabilization by way of black bag operations like this one. On the ground Dane meets his handler, a stunning dark-haired beauty named Isabelle who seems surprised that a rookie was sent to handle the Acevedo sanction. She doesn’t trust Dane from the get go since her last job for the U.S., a covert op in Somalia, went tits up because the team they sent were green behind the gills. Their lack of experience and preparation led them all to their gruesome deaths in the hands of some Al Queda operatives and Isabelle, the only one to escape alive, took the blame.

Her idea is to press the panic button, make a call to the mission backup, a cleaner who will take care of business and most likely clean up Dane in the process because she’s not taking the fall for another fuck up in the field.

Dane doesn’t have time for her bullshit. There’s only a small window of opportunity to get Acevedo and do the job right. He begins to wonder if he can trust Isabelle either.

On a busy highway into Rio de janero, Dane and Isabelle are ambushed by a pair of thugs who try to run them off the road. They shoot their way out of it but one thing becomes clear. Someone knows they’re there.

In a hotel, the night before the job, Isabelle tells Dane about what happened in Somalia and her fears that she and Dane have both been setup to fail by someone who wants to expose the covert organization Dane works for. She falls into his arms, crying and they both end up in bed together.

Dane is woken up by a team of masked, and well trained, heavily armed intruders entering their hotel room and after a brief struggle where Dane, still buck naked, throws one of the intruders off the balcony, he’s bashed in the head with a gunstock and knocked unconscious.

N1B: Chapter Nine

We are still in flashback many years ago as Johnny Dane’s wet ops mission in Brazil has certainly gone tits up in a big way. After being abducted and knocked unconscious at his hote, he finds himself being held at an old run down Rubber Plantation far away from the city, in the mountainous greenbelt outside of Rio DeJanero. Captured along with him is Isabelle, his handler on this mission whom Dane may or may not completely trust. They both finally come face to face with the man Dane came down here on government assignment to eliminate. An ex-CIA agent named Acevedo who has reportedly gone rogue and turned to the Chinese. When Dane won’t divulge to Acevedo who he’s working for, Acevedo threatens both him and Isabelle with a gruesome death of being boiled alive. Quick on his feet, Dane uses a momentarily diversion to escape and grab Acevedo’s gun. In the chaos that ensues, he gets out of the building with Acevedo’s armed macanas searching high and low for him. He hides in a ramshackle gardener’s house on the plantation where he finds a way to call for backup but before he can dial out for help, he feels a gun on his neck. A gun held by Isabelle.

N1B: Chapter Ten

We return to present day. Dane, recovering from Vosler’s attempt on his life is recouperating from his gunshot wounds at a small guest house in Farquar’s Salvage yard. He has learned that not only has his past come back to haunt him, but now Ava, his one true love, has been swept up in the undercurrent of his former life. She has been abducted by Richeleu in an attempt to get twist Dane’s arm. Given all the money being bet on the contest’s outcome by Richeleu’s friends, there’s a lot riding on Dane getting into the game, even if it means the only thing he does as a contestant is die.

N1B: Chapter Eleven

Dane’s buddy Farquar has determined that Ava is being held captive in a private penthouse apartment in Richeleu’s office building. Of course this means the only way Dane’s going to get her is figure out a way in there, but with a near army of security and bodyguards it’s not going to be easy. This is exactly where Farquar’s larcenous son Liam and his partner in crime, Hip Hop come in handy. Armed with a truckload of gadgets and pair of brass balls, Dane has a plan to get inside without firing a shot. Though, all bets are off once he gets inside. Meanwhiile, what Dane doesn’t know is that Richeleu’s right hand man, Vosler has made arrangements with Jayden to kill Dane next, an important move for Richeleu given the nearly two and a half million bucks he’s got wagered in the contest for Dane to die next. Though nobody knows where Dane vanished to, one thing Vosler says, is certain, he had accomplices getting out of the hospital, find them and you’ll find Johnny Dane.

N1B: Chapter Twelve

Using a simple disguise, some social engineering and nerves of steel, Dane has slipped unnoticed into J.C. Richeleu’s downtown L.A. office building after hours. He’s pretty certain that Ava is being held captive here in a small private apartment on the top floor. He’s also pretty certain the path to finding her is going to be filled with Richeleu’s army of goons and security, including Richeleu’s personal bodyguard and hammer, Vosler. Using some of Liam and Hip Hop’s electronic toys, Dane finds Richeleu’s office and confronts the man whose vile contest started all this. Richeleu however is the one who turns the tables, surprising Dane when Vosler leads Ava in through the door at gunpoint. He tells Dane to sit so they can have a drink before Vosler shoots both him and Ava in the head.

N1B: Chapter Thirteen

THE STORY SO FAR: Getting a momentary window of opportunity, Dane uses the destruction of a priceless painting to make it out of Richeleu’s office. Getting out of the building however, is another feat entirely. One involving a heartpounding slide down an freight elevator shaft and getting out just before the falling elevator comes crashing down on him and Ava. After taking on, and taking out the four security guards keeping an eye on the parking garage, Dane and Ava burn rubber, away from Richeleus fortress. But what they don’t know is what’s coming after them and that they’ve only just begun to escape.

N1B: Chapter Fourteen

THE STORY SO FAR: Dane and Ava’s pulse racing escape from Richeleu’s building comes in the form of a high-speed chase through the streets of Los Angeles. Fleeing from a fleet of armed Humvees, Dane shoots his way out only to face a new bird of prey on his tail, Vosler’s Bell Jet Ranger helicopter. With Vosler raining rocket propelled grenades down on them, Dane finds a way to take down the bird and Richeleu’s hammer along with it. But at what cost because when the copter crashes, Ava is hit by flying debris and left motionless in the middle of the road. Meanwhile on the other side of town, Liam, Hip Hop and Toni get an unexpected visitor by way of Jayden showing up, loaded gun in hand.

N1B: Chapter Fifteen

PREVIOUSLY ON N1B: Lured back to the Auto Salvage yard by Richeleu,  Dane is told that his friend and onetime savior Farquar and his family will die unless Dane trades his life for theirs. Once there Dane is tied up and beaten by Richeleu and his cadre of goons and is then made to watch as a car loaded with Farquar, Liam, Hip Hop, Toni and Ava is dropped into a car crusher from a massive crane operated magnet. Richeleu tells him that today Dane will see everyone he cares about die. Just as Richeleu is about to press the crusher’s start button, sniper-fired bullets come out of the darkness killing all of Richeleu’s goons, including the one operating the crane who slumps forward causing the crane arm to begin revolving out of control. The shooter emerges. It’s Soeren Anton. He tells Richeleu the other wealthy betters in the contest didn’t approve of the tampering and have a message for him. A message in the way of two bullets fired into Richeleu’s chest. As Richeleu falls, he grabs for the controls, hitting the button and bringing the massive car crusher to life. Soeren approaches Dane and cuts him free but as Dane turns to shut off the crusher, Soeren grabs his arm and tells him this contest isn’t over yet.
