ANGEL OF DEATH – EPISODE NINE

Previously on Angel of Death: When Miles doesn’t return, Nena tells Galen they have to leave the safehouse. Frustrated that he is being left in the dark, Galen begs his sister for answers but she essentially tells him the only question he needs to ask is how to survive against the forces hunting them. Then as they escape through the butchering district, Galen suddenly sees a vision veiled in the billowing steam… a vision of his father holding his sister’s severed head.

SHADOW FALLS: ANGEL OF DEATH

SHADOW FALLS

THE ART OF SURFACING

Oh sweet! Characters and settings from Season 1! Way cool! And that fortune teller has got to be the same one from Season 2, right? Lovin’ it!

This is starting to remind me a little bit of the Matrix. Galen (Neo) is being led along a path by Nena (Morpheus), which seems to be partially true but lacking in the perspective of the other side, more or less represented by Miles (Agent Smith?). The Badlands book sounds just like the gospel of Morpheus, as I like to call it, and William Lawton might be playing the role that ended up being filled by the Architect.
I don’t think he’s going to take the easy, middle road solution the way they did in the Matrix, mostly because the sides involved in the Shadow Falls conflict isn’t very clear even to the participants. The interesting parallel, though, is the way we’ve heard bits and pieces of the story from individual characters, most of whom seem to advance the part of the story that they believe push forward their own agenda. Since we’re seeing the arrival and convergence of some new characters, the perspectives they offer will turn the story on its head yet again.
As for the bow-chicka-bow-bow, I wonder if what we’re hearing is the conception of Molly. That’s probably too easy, though. There’s also an easy line to draw from Tom -> Brother Thomas -> Galen suddenly arriving in Shadow Falls with no memory of where he was before. That’s probably also wrong, though.

Question is: did the guy Galen inhabited during his vision screw Jenna before or after the events of Season #1? If he screwed here before these events, there is a chance for him to be Mollys father. If the vision is located on the timeline after Season #1, i’ve got the feeling who “the corpse” might have been.
And Mark, a big “FUCK YEAH” from me for bringing my all-time-favourite son of a bitch back to life… Indeed , “Brother Thomas, DO SOMETHING!”
Hell ya!

Yo man, yo! More twists. What did Nana think about her severed head in the hand of her father? Or did she see the same thing as Galen?
I didn’t expect you to go all Penthouse Letters in the next twist. Still taking that in. Everything has a purpose and I’m waiting to hear outcome. Molly’s conception?
With my headphone on and curiosity aroused, later.

YO, MAN, YO!!!
-@Nick: I agree with your analysis on being somewhat like the Matrix and the characters that you’ve chosen to correlate with the characters in Season 3. Interesting thoughts. I’m thinking though that the Matrix story came off from the Bible/NT. Isn’t that right Mark? Especially the whole thing about being the One and sacrificing oneself for a whole purpose. This story of Shadow Falls definitely has its Theological/Biblical ties, especially the Apocalyptic ones.
-@MYN: Definitely interesting how you’re bringing out characters from season 1 and season 2 in the mix here. I’m so glad you did, that way it’ll be great to wrap up more on how this whole story is from beginning to end, or better yet, from the end to the beginning. Haha.
I’m thinking that the Gypsy in this case is like the Librarian in Season 1. Seems that she definitely has powers. Speaking about powers, Molly from Season 1 comes to my mind as well. Not entirely that she’s being conceived here in Episode 9 by Tom and Jenna (great brain bashing scene), but she comes to mind also because of her powers that she also has in Season 1 too when she grabs Galen’s hands to show him a vision.
Also towards the end of Episode 9, the words “We shall live in his house, we shall live in his name”. Isn’t that an indication that murder/bloodshed is coming just like in Season 1 again? In the case of the Gypsy showing Galen these visions, I’m thinking that Galen is going to be shown how horrific he can be when killing someone. Well how horrific his evil Spirit really is that we know he is definitely a part of. In the case of Jenna here, if she in fact is going to get slaughtered by “Tom” (maybe), it definitely indicates again that she is definitely also a part of it… the part of the whole cycle of one or those that die, come back to life, die, and come back to life, again and again… every single time. Why I say this is because of what the Gypsy tells Galen about not killing yet in “this” Lifetime, but also how he’s being entered, thrown, forced into all of these Lifetimes, filled with sacrifices, purposes for evil, for good, for murder, for blood, for resurrection, for power, for control. Dang!!!!
Bring on Episode 10!!!!!

Mark once indicated that Galen Altos was an anagram. To me this tranlates into “Lost Angel.” If Galen can’t remember his former lives, is it possible that the jumps from body to body or “lifetime to lifetime” fullfilling whatever purpose was intended at that moment in time then moving on?

@Adolph: Ooohhh… definitely good thought. I agree that Galen is definitely a “Lost Angel”. In his case though as opposed to a good angel, he’s a Demonic Fallen Angel, a part of that Evil Spirit in which he’s being inhabited, or definitely a big part of the almighty “ANGEL OF DEATH” hence the name of Season 3…… Angel, doesn’t that translate to messenger? Messenger of Death, very nice….!

@Nick: Miles as Agent Smith? Nope, don’t think so… Briar Gent would fit in this role much more…

@Nick and WaynePhillips: With the events that transpired in Chapter 9, and the time line reveal Mark granted to us in the commentary, I think Galen has got to be Molly’s father. Wow! Until this chapter, it never occurred to me to even think about where Molly’s father was or who he might be, and here he was in front of us the whole time (most likely anyway).
Now, I’m expecting Molly to make an appearance again, but as a different character!
The dead woman in bed with Galen at the very beginning of AOD – could that be Jenna?
@Riz: The librarian and the gypsy – stellar comparison! Yet another similarity I would have missed on my own. (I love this forum!) I think the fortune tellers from Seasons 2 and 3 could very well be the same identity, and now I would include the possibility of the librarian being part of that identity. She is, perhaps, another person being used as a pawn with the purpose of showing Galen his past or future, and to give him insight into his own self, thus furthering the cause of… Hmmm, is she a help or a hindrance to Galen? Is she a pawn of the wolf or the coyote?
@MYN: A narrative rewrite of Season 1 would be so fabulous! I prefer that format so much more because it allows you, Mark, to describe to us, the listeners, what’s going on the head of the characters. We get so much more insight as to motivations, behaviors, mind-sets, etc.

@Molly didn’t catch the season 1 stuff until MYN pointed it out, but I definitely was thinking that Jenna was the dead chick from chapter 1. Does this make sense though? Mark says this is prior to book 1 and Jenna is alive at that time. ???
@MYN the tease with the cleaver and the hamburger was hilarious. I think the story could use a little more dark humor. You don’t do this a lot in your books but that was brilliantly executed and your reading was spot on. Yo man, yo!

Crap. I get really sick with strep throat and you all whip out the grad class workshop. I’m a week behind and have to work hard to catch up. Nice thoughts all.
