Previously on Angel of Death: After getting Nena and Galen to a safehouse way outside of the city, The Freak goes back to retrieve the artifact, the petrified eyeball, he inadvertently left behind in their rush to escape attack. Meanwhile, Galen’s insistence to know the truth brings Nena to reveal two important details of Galen’s previous existence. The eyeball in question used to be his and a book given to her by a man named Mathers inexplicably details the events of their past lives from 150 years ago–a book titled BADLANDS.

Reading is always an enlightening experience but in this case it’s a frightening experience for Gaylon. I hate when that happens, except when it happens in a great story like this.
Also, I’m strangely interested in how the Freak will amputate his arm with a firearm. At least it seems like what he was about to do in the cliff hanger. My headphones are on and my are ears tuned in.
If Darbos is Cyril and Cyril was left to awaken buried alive then suffocate then awaken, repeating this until whenever, why leave the freak the gun? Why leave him an out? If I understood this “The Freak” should be taking his own life with that shot. At the end of BadLands Cyril plans to kill Miles but Miles gets the jump on him. Why not kill him now or leave him to killed by what ever lives in that forest? I know that this is not LOST in way shape or form but are there “Rules?”
Two very interesting turns of events in this episode. First, Galen is unable to finish reading the book. Does that REALLY mean that the book is preventing him from reading further? Or that something inside his mind doesn’t want him to read the book? Who knows…
Also, poor Miles now being on the lower end of the food chain… Highly entertaining. Would be fun to see him severing his arm by gunshot only to see a deer step out of the woods instead of a coyote…
I _KNEW_ he wouldn’t use that bullet to “end his pain” =-)
Keep on rollin’ Mark!
Ohhhh, forgot to add what I thought for sure Darvos was going to say to Galen: Holding out the eyeball – “You lookin’ at me???”
Last episode and this one, once again have me thinking of William. Since one set of eyes came from him and now it seems we have at least a second set of eyes form Galen’s previous body are we going to see William showing up in a new form or was he “mortal”?
I am also curious if there is a difference in what William’s eyes show compared to Galen’s?
I was pleasantly surprised to see Nana(sic) voicing what I have been thinking about Galen’s journey being about having a chance to break his pattern of violence.
And now a book! Oh please don’t get me started on the wonderful metaphor of a book as artifact!
An aside – Any one else want to reread the Gilgamesh story?
You need to put a warning on your podcast …. “Listening to Angel of Death at work may cause a large decline in productivity” …. and I can speak from experience on this!
Are you going to release a podcast of the music from the show like you did with Transistor Rodeo?
Can’t wait for the next episode … great cliff hanger ending for chapter 6.
@ Mark: I’m glad you revealed that Darvos and Cyril are the same identity as I found it helpful to know what has motivated Darvos’ actions so far. During Darvos’ rant, how he exposes his rage and his want for revenge towards Miles, and, with how that scene ends, it has built up my expectation that there has got to be one or more intense and exciting confrontations to come between those two.
In your commentary, you said you hope that all the flashbacks in the story are not a ”turnoff”. They’re definitely not a turnoff for me! Quite the opposite. I find them very effective in explaining some of the mysteries and in progressing the story. Really, the flashbacks are a necessity! I’m looking forward to Nena’s flashback. I’m very curious to know more about her background and her role in all this.
@ Adolph Balboa: I also thought Darvos leaving The Freak one bullet seemed uncharacteristically kind – kind for Darvos anyway – but there’s got to be a reason behind it.
@ Mathias: HA HA! A deer. Or better yet, a bunny rabbit.
@ John: I’ve been wondering about William too. Will he come back in some form? Or did he do his part and is no longer needed?
@ Mark again: This is irrelevant to the story, but I’m curious. The Badlands book from which Galen reads – Does it have any relation to your original title of ”Book of Darkness” for Episode 3?
