A little known fact is that after the first season the producers cited "Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge" as a source of inspiration for their plotline in a small USA TODAY article covering the at that time new series. Being a huge fan of Ambrose Bierce I couldn't wait to watch the series unfold with all of the aforementioned direct and indirect references. The important thing, to me, is that all of the questions that everyone seems so upset about not being answered become obvious from the Ambrose Bierce perspective. And I do mean all of them. To those of you who don't understand just read the short story and it will all will become clear

I like it. I have never watched Lost mind you. I only read Occurrence because of an english class I had to take. That side I thought the photo of Jack was from a film version of Occurrence not Lost. For story I had no desire to read it stuck in my head pretty good a mark of good literature.

I think that you are either dead-on-the-money with this one....or you have a much better concept than even the show writers. "Occurrence" is such a well-done, classic tale. The closed-loop makes sense, most especially in light of the bookends that you pointed out.

I'm not saying the island world didn't happen but that instead it happened within a time loop that was closed once Jack fulfilled his "destiny".

I can see what you're trying to say, but how would the non-plane crash victims fit into this? Like Juliet and ben? My theory is that the occurrences on the island were real and the sideways world was their made up blink world.
